Power and Justice Week at Southwestern University is a campus-wide initiative led by Student Activities dedicated to exploring issues of equity, community, and social responsibility. Through events like the Oxfam Hunger Banquet, Panel Discussions, and a Community Partner Fair, the week brings awareness to topics such as hunger, homelessness, and systemic inequality.Â
Student Life warmly invites students to attend these events to learn about the various discussion topics and how these impact the Georgetown Community.Â

The Oxfam Hunger Banquet, Monday, November 10th, 6:00-7:30 p.m., McComb's Ballrooms, RSVP Here.Â
The Oxfam Hunger Banquet is a banquet which aims to address global hunger and food inequalities. We will have a banquet that reflects global food accessibility, and hear about local work to end hunger in the Georgetown Community from SU alum Bryce Stiemert. Only 60 spots are available for this event, and the organization with the most attendees will win a free dinner!Â

Student Government's Holiday Food Drive, November 10th-14th, Bishop's Lounge
This holiday season, join the Southwestern community in supporting our annual Holiday Food Drive! We invite you to donate non-perishable food items to help those in need. Donations will go to The Caring Place, Southwestern Food Pantry, Salvation Army, and The Georgetown Project.

National Living Wage Week Reception, Wednesday, November 12th, 4:00-6:00 p.m., McComb's Campus Center Ballrooms.Â
What is a Living Wage? How do these wages impact individuals, communities, and companies in Georgetown? Join us for an engaging session with Prosper Georgetown, a local organization dedicated to promoting economic stability and community well-being through fair wages and collaboration. This event will highlight Prosper Georgetown’s mission to establish a Living Wage Certification program, educate the community about what a living wage means for full-time workers, and encourage local employers to commit to wage practices that support the dignity and sustainability of Georgetown’s workforce. Through open dialogue, participants will learn how living wages strengthen families, businesses, and the broader community- creating a Georgetown where everyone can thrive.

Learning about Unhoused Neighbors in Georgetown, TX, Thursday, November 13th, 6:00-8:00 PM, McComb's Ballrooms
Join us for an evening of learning and conversation as we explore the realities of homelessness in Georgetown, TX. Facilitated by Dr. Ronald Swain and hosted by Spiritual Life, this event invites participants to listen, reflect, and discuss the causes of homelessness, possible solutions, and practical ways to make a difference. Together, we’ll broaden our understanding of what it means to be unsheltered, highlight the experiences of youth, and consider how partnership and collaboration can create lasting change. Round-table discussions and light refreshments will be provided.
